Guide: The Best No WiFi Required Offline Racing Games for the iPhone
Nowadays there may be Wi-Fi or a cellular signal everywhere, but that doesn’t mean we always want to be connected. Sometimes it’s just nice to shut down and have time away from the world without interruption. If you want to play a game during that time, why not? That’s why I’ve put together this list of the best non-WiFi racing games for iPhone. I like a good racing game. They are fast, hectic, great fun and cut out that part of me that couldn’t go that fast on the road. Some of these apps require a connection to set up up and authenticate, but allow for offline play.
Horizon Chase – World Tour
Horizon Chase – World Tour is one of the best racing games for iPhone. It has console quality graphics, fast-paced gameplay, a series of cars and tracks to unlock, and a colorful graphics palette that works well on a phone. It has been around for a while but has steadily improved in that time. It does need a newer iPhone to get the best out of it, but in return, it delivers solid racing with less of the rubber band-like AI you usually get in lower quality racers. The app costs $ 2.99 and includes in-ap purchases.
Need For Speed: no limits
Need For Speed: No Limits continues the brand’s racing pedigree with another solid, Wi-Fi-free racing game for the iPhone. Available for Android and iPhone, it delivers the quality, graphics, gameplay, and excitement you’ve come to expect from Need For Speed. Yes, it is Electronic Arts, but other than that, this game is excellent. The user interface is slick and the navigation is good too. There is a huge range of customizations and unlocks and a lot of songs and events to try out. The game says it requires a persistent connection to play, but I’ve played this without one many times and it worked fine. The app is free, but includes in-app purchases.
Real racing 3
Real Racing 3 is a different EA title but has a different character than Need for Speed. This is more about track racing than street racing and has a very different feel. It is a more realistic racer with better models, more realistic interiors and cars, but less environmental details. Again, it requires a newer iPhone to get the best out of it, but rewards that with great gameplay. The navigation and game design is excellent and the circuits, events and cars are all very well modeled and look authentic. While the tracks don’t provide the same interest as the streets in NFS, the racing action is such that it doesn’t matter. Again the game says it requires a persistent connection, but I play fine without it. The app is free, but includes in-app purchases.
Grid Autosport
Grid Autosport is one mobile version of a great PC game that I spent hundreds of hours on. It’s a bit like Real Racing 3 in that it’s all about the track and the same level of detailing and racing action can be seen here too. There are over a hundred cars and tracks to unlock, many events, and the usual customization options to keep you busy. The design is very simple and makes it easy to race fast. It’s a Codemasters game so the graphics, physics and movement are all top notch and the game performs well on a range of phones. The app costs $ 9.99 but gives you everything.
CSR Racing 2
CSR Racing 2 is a bit different, but no less entertaining. It’s still a no-Wi-Fi racing game for the iPhone, but this time it’s all about drag racing. There are no great tracks, no steering, drifting or anything good. This game is all about setup and timing. Fix the car, get your reactions right and time everything to the millisecond. That may not be the most enticing description, but the game itself is very entertaining. The graphics and gameplay are good, the customization options are many, and the opportunity to hone your skills is always there. It’s an excellent game if you’re looking for something different. The app is free, but includes in-app purchases.
Motorsport Manager Mobile 3
Motorsport Manager Mobile 3 is different again as the title suggests. This time, you are a team manager who has to hire drivers, mechanics, R&D, manage a head office, develop technology, find sponsors, up your cars for qualifying and racing and a lot of other tasks that we never see on race day. You don’t actually race in this game, but you do everything else to make your team perform. It’s a slower game, but incredibly deep and engaging. If you like details and planning this could be the game for you. The app costs $ 3.99 and offers in-app purchases. Those are some of the best non-WiFi racing games for iPhone that I know.
