They have a bass-heavy sound profile by design, and you can even use their haptic bass slider to give your favorite songs a little more boom and punch. They feature a few EQ presets in its companion app to let you alter their sound, and they have a lengthy, continuous 34-hour battery life. They may not be the best to wear throughout your commute or in a noisy office because they don’t isolate from a lot of background noises. However, they’re a good option if you want simple headphones with a bass-heavy sound profile. Although Skullcandy may not always come to mind when considering high-quality audio equipment, this view is steadily shifting. However, now we’re looking at the Skullcandy Crusher Evo, which includes Bluetooth 5.0, an adjustable bass slider, and is priced at about $200 USD. The business is best known for its less expensive earbuds. also you will learn our article on Skullcandy Crusher Evo review.
Skullcandy Crusher Evo review: Design
The Crusher Evos are available in either True Black or Chill Grey. We took the gray version for testing. The design consists of different shades of gray, except for the green power button. We found the design to be more appealing than the usual bland look of the headphones. The headphones also feel very sturdy. The headband is flexible enough to fit large heads. We were able to wear the Crusher Evos for several hours without any discomfort. We found the ear cushions to be a little less roomy than other headphones. The headphones come with a padded carrying bag. It’s better than nothing, but we wouldn’t use it in place of our own hard case when traveling. The ear cushions swivel 180 degrees. This allows them to sit flat on a table or in a hard case. The left ear cushion has a power button as well as a bass control. There are three vertical buttons on the right ear cushion. Pressing the top button increases the volume. Holding it down for 3 seconds advances to the next track. Pressing the lower button lowers the volume. Holding it down for 3 seconds advances to the previous track. The middle button has a different texture and is used to play and pause. It can also be used to answer and end phone calls.
Comfort
The Crusher Evo has respectable comfort. Since our ears are on the larger side, the earpads are just just too small for us, but we still find them to be comfortable. The earcups vibrate when you play music on them, which actually increases comfort because the entire headphone vibrates, which we believe also lets some air in. They have memory foam inside to keep them comfortable, and even though their headband puts pressure on the centre of your head, they are lightweight so you can wear them for a while. On them, you also receive a head massage while listening to bass-heavy music, and after a while, it actually feels rather soothing.
Skullcandy Crusher Evo review: Connectivity
The Crusher Evo works via Bluetooth v 5.0 and connects easily to our phone and laptop. The Crusher Evo has a personalized sound that is tuned to the user’s hearing. All you have to do is download the Skullcandy app after pairing the Crusher Evo with your device. After opening the Skullcandy app, you will be prompted to take an audio test to customize your personal sound. During the test, the app plays a series of beeps and tells you if you can hear them separately for both ears. Once you record your personal sense of the audio cues, the app will record your personal sound profile, as shown in the diagram below. It’s best to take this test because, in our experience, the sound actually gets better after recording your personal sound. The app also comes with different modes – the music mode is the default, which is where we used the headphones most of the time. There is also a podcast mode and a movie mode.
Noise cancelling
Although the Crusher Evo is slightly smaller than earlier Crusher models, it is still an overhead headset. The fit is not as comfortable as the Crusher ANC; the Evo seems too dense and heavy at 312g, and doesn’t seem to sit quite right on the ears when we put the glasses on, which greatly affects noise isolation. also you will learn our article on Skullcandy Crusher Evo review. Nevertheless, the padding is soft, and while listening for an hour or so, it didn’t get in the way. The headphones can also be folded up for convenient storage. The right side of the Skullcandy Crusher Evo has large physical buttons for playback and volume control, while the left side has a power button, USB Type-C port for charging, a 3.5mm jack for wired connection, and what makes this pair of headphones unique: a bass control.
Audio performance
The Skullcandy Crusher Evo headphones combine the “signature” sound of the Crusher Bass series with Audiodo’s audio personalization algorithm. In the Skullcandy App, once paired with the Crusher Evo under “Personalized Sound,” you can create different sound profiles to match the Crusher Evo sound – and bass – to your ears. What’s more, the sound profile is adjustable separately for the left and right ears, which means you don’t have to turn up the volume to enjoy the Crusher Evo’s deep, sweeping bass sound. And because you can add different sound profiles, you can have one for home and one for office (currently they can be the same, we agree). Because the sound of the Skullcandy Crusher Evo is focused on bass reproduction, the midrange tones are sometimes a bit muffled, but not so much that it detracts from your listening experience. To get a cleaner sound across the entire audible sound spectrum, you would have to pay almost twice as much for something like a pair of Bowers & Wilkins PX7s.
Skullcandy Crusher Evo review: Call performance
The calls on the Crusher Evo were very clear, but only when the voice didn’t have to compete with the background sounds. Even light car traffic or a brisk breeze creates problems with lots of extra noise. There is no side tone feature on calls, so your own voice will sound muffled, which people sometimes find unpleasant. They’re fine for normal phone conversations, but if you want your callers to hear you well, it’s best to find a quiet place.
Battery and charging
Skullcandy promises that the Crusher Evos will have a battery life of 40 hours with one hour of fully charged headphones, and yes, it delivers on that promise. We used the headphones for about two hours every day for 10 days, and we don’t remember plugging them in. They also offer fast charging within 10 minutes with 4 hours of battery life. The Crusher Evo’s battery life is perfect, and you can forget about charging even after hours of use with the bass control on. However, if you run out of battery power, they come with a USB-C cable and offer a fully charged device within 1 hour of charging. They can also be used as a wired device with the 0.3mm aux cable included. However, we have never experienced the need to use them as a wired device. also you can check our article on Skullcandy Crusher Evo review.
Conclusion
The most recent Crusher Evo headphones from Skullcandy are a fantastic choice for folks who want over-ear headphones but don’t want to spend a lot of money on them. The integrated bass slider is more than just a silly novelty; it offers a tone of thud that the competition simply can’t match. Feeling like you have a subwoofer on your head is an unusual sensation. The Personal Sound system is a unique strategy that employs software to improve the auditory experience when the hardware can’t do it on its own, despite the fact that overall sound quality isn’t exceptional. Unfortunately, the audio quality is only passable when the slider is all the way down, and the bass may easily feel excessive even when it is only slightly increased in some circumstances.
