The Fitbit Aria Air connects to your phone via Bluetooth and does not have Wi-Fi. This means it’s quick and simple to set up, with no need to enter your home network password, but your phone must be within Bluetooth range for your data to sync. If you already have a Fitbit smartwatch or fitness tracker and aren’t too concerned with the specifics of your body composition, the Fitbit Aria Air is a good option. It’s well-made and simple to use, making it simple to get into the habit of weighing yourself on a regular basis. The Fitbit Aria Air comes in black and white and, like almost all smart scales, has a toughened glass platform. This appeared to be particularly susceptible to fingerprints in our tests. It’s water-resistant, so you can wipe it down with a dry towel if it gets wet in the bathroom, but we discovered that marks remained even after rubbing with a microfiber cloth. It requires three AAA batteries, which are included. It has a large platform for a smart scale, measuring 12.8 x 12.8in. There are no markings to show the best place to position your feet, unlike some other scales, but because the scale does not use bioimpedence, this should not be a problem. The Fitbit Aria Air’s weight surprised us. It weighs 3.9lb (1.7kg), which is comparable to Wi-Fi scales such as the Garmin Index S2 and significantly less than the Eufy Smart Scale C1 Bluetooth scale. Fitbit recommends always storing the scale upright, so you’re unlikely to move it frequently, but it’s something to consider if space in your bathroom is limited. Because the scale does not track body composition, it cannot identify you unless it is within Bluetooth range of your phone. If you board without a connection, you will see your weight, but your data will not be synced. It is not stored on the scale because there is no way to associate it with a specific user. This may be inconvenient if you aren’t in the habit of taking your phone into the bathroom in the morning, but it does mean that the scale can be used by an unlimited number of people. Most smart scales have a user limit of four to sixteen, but the Aria Air does not, as long as each person has a Fitbit account.
