Once it was set up, the Ring Spotlight Cam Pro Battery performed flawlessly in terms of monitoring and notifications, albeit it was difficult to keep it “talking” to our Wi-Fi. It was installed on a property that uses booster discs to expand the signal outside; while this has worked well for other outside technology, the camera didn’t perform well with the system. Frequently, even moving the camera slightly to get a better view would make it lose connectivity. For the optimum performance, you’ll essentially need a strong Wi-Fi signal. You might discover that location isn’t affected by the battery but connectivity might. According to Ring, the Spotlight Cam Pro Battery needs an upload connection of at least 2Mbps to operate at its best. When we adjusted the sensitivity of an existing camera on the site to conserve battery life, it tended to detect motion that the Ring didn’t (for example, animals), but it could still accurately identify people. In our little outdoor space, we found the Bird’s Eye View function to be mainly ineffective because it frequently detected vehicles travelling past the property on the road, generating numerous alarms per hour.
