YouTube has forever changed the way we consume video content. Sure, there were other video hosting sites before YouTube, and many more to come, but none can match its footprint. After joining Guiding Tech recently, I went through our YouTube channel. You know, to get up speed up. I have noticed that YouTube no longer supports list view, only grid view. Unfortunately. The list view makes it easier to scroll. I wanted to watch videos in chronological order starting with oldest to newest. It’s even more important if you’re following a YouTube channel that tells a story. Unfortunately YouTube doesn’t allow me to do that either. It looks like you can sort videos from old to new, but if you click Play All, YouTube forgets your selection and starts playing videos from newest to old. I have found a solution for both. 1. Watch videos from old to new
There was this old trick allowing users to do just that. To sort videos from oldest to newest, you had to open the first video published on the channel and add this code to the end of the URL. & list = UL This used to work, but the feature was removed a few months ago. Enter PlaybackLoop. A cool site that allows you to watch YouTube videos in chronological order. Launch the website and you will see a search bar where you have to enter the URL of the channel or playlist. I will choose a playlist. Click on the playlist tab to view all the playlists the channel has to offer. I choose Android How-To and Tips for the purpose of this guideRight-click on the playlist name to copy the link.
Now go back to Playback Loop and paste the URL into the search bar by pressing CTRL + V and pressing Enter or clicking the search query button
By default, PlaybackLoop sorts all videos in the playlist in chronological order, starting with the oldest. There is a drop-down menu where you can change your preference from newest to oldest.
The best thing about PlaybackLoop is that when the video ends, it plays the next video in the same order, in a loop. PlaybackLoop is a great way to binge watch your favorite channels and playlists without having to go back and forth. Set it up and forget it. It is free to use. Visit PlaybackLoop
2. Add the URL for List View
Like most tech giants, YouTube hides some tricks deep in its programming. All you have to do is search for it. Sometimes it is fun. Sometimes it is not. When you opened the Video tab of a channel, there used to be an option to view the videos in list or grid view. I prefer a list, but that option has also been removed. Fortunately, there is a URL hack that still works. This time I visited GT Hindi’s YouTube channel and opened the Video tab. It was opened in grid view. I’ve sorted it from oldest to newest order so that I can open individual videos in a new tab and watch them in that order. Not convenient but an option nonetheless.
Add this code to the end of the URL to change the display from grid to list. ? flow = list Here is the result.
While YouTube should have offered these functionalities by default, we now have a solution. I hope YouTube developers read this post. Fun fact: YouTube video buffering?
