How to Invert an image in Google Docs on PC
If you’re using Google Docs on the web on your Mac or Windows computer, you can flip an image you’ve added to the Google Docs file directly from the editor screen. To do this, open a document inside Docs where you want to turn an image. If the image you want to flip is already present in the document, you will need to cut it or copy it to the clipboard. To do this, click on the image you want to flip, right-click on it and select the ‘Cut’ or ‘Copy’ option. If you are creating a copy of the image, you may need to delete the original image after your copy is turned over. Alternatively, you can crop or copy the image using your relevant keyboard shortcuts: [Ctrl (Command) + C (to copy)] or [Ctrl (Command) + V (to cut)]. After the image is cut or copied, place the cursor on an empty part of the document. Now, go to Insert > Drawing in the toolbar at the top of the Google Docs window and select the ‘New’ option. To invert this image, click the Actions menu option within the Design window and select Rotate. Now, depending on how you want the image to be arranged, choose the ‘Flip Horizontal’ or ‘Flip Vertical’ option. Your image will now be inverted the way you chose. After successful flipping, you can add this image to your document by clicking the ‘Save and close’ option in the upper right corner of the drawing tool window. The method above is the only way to flip your images horizontally in Google Docs. All other shapes listed here will only allow you to invert or rotate an image vertically.
How to Invert an image in the Google Docs app on your Phone
If you commonly create and edit documents with the Google Docs app on your phone, so we hate to break this with you; the Google Docs app on your phone does not allow you to flip an image from within the app. This is because there is no drawing tool available in the Google Docs app as there is in the web app. Don’t worry, Google offers its own Snapseed app to flip images locally on your phone that you can add to your document in Documents.
Flipping the image in Snapseed
Before flipping an image, make sure you have the Snapseed app installed on your Android or iPhone. Click on the relevant link below to download and install Snapseed. Once the app is installed, open it and tap the huge ‘+’ icon on the app’s main screen. If this is your first time using Snapseed, you will be asked to grant storage permissions to your phone for the app. Tap ‘Allow’ when prompted. Once this is done, tap the ‘+’ icon again and select the image from your phone storage. when the image loads up, tap the ‘Tools’ tab at the bottom of the image editor. You should now see a handful of editing tools available in the app. In this pop-up, select the ‘Rotate’ option. On the next screen, you should see all the tools you need to rotate or flip the image. Tap the Flip icon (indicated by two inward-facing arrowheads). By tapping the flip icon, you will see the selected image flipped horizontally. If you want the image to be flipped vertically, tap the Rotate icon twice. If you are satisfied with the inversion results, tap the checkmark in the lower right corner. Now you can save the image to your phone by tapping the ‘Export’ tab at the bottom. When a pop-up menuup appears, select the ‘Save’ option on the screen to save it to your phone.
