Guide: How to Edit Default Background Color in Chrome Browser

Everyone has different preferences. This also applies to colours. Some like light colours, others prefer bold and bright colours. Fortunately, even apps now allow you to change their colour. We are talking about Google Chrome. This post will tell you four ways to change Chrome’s colour. Whether your Chrome is stuck in black or dark mode or you want to change Chrome’s theme, here’s the answer for both. If you have an issue where the font colour is the same as Chrome’s background colour, the following tips will also help you solve that. So let’s look at the different methods to change Chrome colour.

1. Apply a different theme

Previously, one had to take the help of third-party themes to change the colour of Google Chrome. Just a few months ago, Google introduced its own suite of themes for Chrome. So you need to change the theme to one of the official themes to fix the problem in your current theme or simply change the background colour. You can even try other third-party themes. Follow these steps to change the Chrome theme: Step 1: Start Chrome and go to the Theme page in the Chrome Store. Step 2: You will find several themes, starting with Chrome’s many themes. Click on the theme you want to apply.

Step 3: Click Add to Chrome for the theme you want to use. That is it. You will get a new look for your Chrome. Note: When using the login feature from Chrome to keep your Chrome data in sync across devices, then it will show the theme you are applying on one computer up on all connected computers.

2. Switch back to the original Chrome theme

Sometimes there is a problem with your current theme, so instead of changing it to another theme, you should try to reset it to its default value. You can also use this method to revert to the original Chrome theme. Here is how to do it. Step 1: In Chrome, click the three-dot icon at the top and select Settings. You can also open chrome: // settings /.

Step 2: Scroll down to the Appearance section. You will find the Themes option. Click Restore Defaults to switch back to the original Chrome theme.

3. Change the system theme

On both macOS and Windows, Chrome also changes color when you change your system theme. So you should try this method to change the color or return to the original color.

Change the Chrome theme on Windows

Step 1: Go to System Settings from the Start menu. Step 2: Click on Personalization.

Step 3: Click Colors.

Step 4: Here comes the interesting part. You need to choose a theme style from the drop-down list under Choose your color. You get three options: light, dark, and custom. If you choose the former, all supported apps and Windows interface have a light theme. If you choose Dark, the black color is applied to both.

If you only want to change the color for supported apps like Chrome and leave the Windows color untouched or vice versa, choose the Custom option. Once selected, two new drop-down lists will appear. Select your theme preference under ‘Choose your default app mode’ to apply it to Chrome and other supported apps. Tip If the theme color already matches your preference for Chrome, but a different color is displayed anyway, select another option and then switch back to your choice. Doing so will resolve the issue, if applicable.

Change Chrome theme on Mac

Step 1: Click on the Apple menu at the top and choose System Preferences from there.

Step 2: Click General.

Step 3: Choose your theme for Chrome from the options available under Appearance. Keep in mind that it will change the whole theme of macOS. Step 2: Click High Contrast in the left sidebar. Then turn off the toggle next to ‘Enable high contrast’. Tip You can also search for the high contrast setting using the Windows search to go directly to it.

Colour your life

The theme does not apply the color changes to the web pages. They are limited to the tabs, bookmarks bar and similar areas. If the above methods fail to change or reset Chrome’s color, then you should try resetting Chrome settings.
