Here’s How to go passwordless – Guide

Humans are bad at choosing good passwords. When creating new sets of login credentials, many of us often take the lazy path and choose a password that is easy to remember and therefore easy to guess, making these logins prime targets for malicious actors. Microsoft’s solution to this problem is new, as the company announced today that it is giving users the option to completely relinquish passwords to their Microsoft accounts. This is a big change and will likely seem daunting to those of us who have been using passwords since the early days of the Internet. Microsoft has been signaling this shift for a few years at this point, and in March it launched passwordless login for its business users. Now, all Microsoft users can get rid of the password, with the company offering several replacement options. “As of today, you can completely remove the password from your Microsoft account,” wrote Vasu Jakkal, Microsoft Corporate VP of Security, Compliance and Identity on the company’s website. “Use the Microsoft Authenticator app, Windows Hello, a security key or a verification code sent to your phone or email to sign in to your favorite apps and services, such as Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft OneDrive, Microsoft Family Safety, and more. ” To remove the password from your Microsoft account, Microsoft says you must first download and install the Microsoft Authenticator app and link it to your Microsoft account. From there, log into your Microsoft account, access your settings, select “Advanced Security Options” and then select “Account without password”. All you have to do is activate the account without password feature and approve the notification that the Microsoft application sends you. Microsoft says this functionality will be rolled out to all Microsoft account holders in the coming weeks, so if you don’t see the option right away, it should come up soon. It will be interesting to see if other companies follow suit now that Microsoft has taken steps to discard passwords, so stay tuned for more information. From the news www.slashgear.com
