The Razr has a clamshell design that allows the phone to be smaller than your average smartphone when folded, but still has a 6.2-inch main display when unfolded that’s a size that can compete with top-end flagships. Motorola has oddly opted for a lesser chipset than on other/most other/many other top-end phones, and there are some areas where Motorola seems to have opted for lesser quality components. The new Razr does have twice the storage capacity of its predecessor and a larger display on the front, and it offers 5G connectivity, but that doesn’t make it a must-have. The Razr 2020 looks and functions like its predecessor – it’s a foldable clamshell phone that’s about the size of a typical smartphone when unfolded and takes up half the space when folded. This allows it to perform some nifty tricks that typical smartphones can’t, but the Razr’s main advantage is its pocketability, as it fits into smaller spaces than your average tall and narrow phone. If you’re looking for a device that can even fit in a shirt pocket or easily fit into a small handbag, but still offer a full-sized smartphone, this is the one for you. There are two displays we want to talk about here, and we’ll start with the main screen you’ll be using most of the time: the foldable 6.2-inch main display. The 6.2-inch main POLED display hasn’t changed from the original Razr 2019. It’s about the size of a typical smartphone, but it’s a bit narrower, with an HD Plus resolution (2142 x 876) that’s a bit less sharp than the Full HD resolution of other phones, including the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip (2636 x 1080). The Motorola Razr 2020 has two cameras, similar to regular cameras, one on the back and one at the top of the screen. On the front of the phone when closed is a 48MP shooter, which is a big step up from the 16MP shooter on the first-generation foldable Razr. Thanks to the folding format, this camera can also be used for selfies when the phone is folded: the QuickView screen previews the shot with a tapable shutter button, although you can also use one of the two volume buttons to take a photo. While this 48 MP camera can be used for selfies when the phone is folded, it also functions as the main camera when the phone is unfolded.
