The concept makes waves in the productivity space. The company recently made the software free for personal use. The decision has led to a spike in the use of Notion. Notion feels quite overwhelming at first. Fortunately, Notion has a rich library of templates. That also helps it stand out against the likes of Trello, Evernote, OneNote, and others. Templates are the heart of Notion experience. You can use the built-in template to get started, or you can build a custom template from scratch. You can use templates for tasks, travel planning, financial tracking, subscription tracking, project management, and more. Your choice of templates is not limited to the Notion library. You can browse the template gallery from the Notion user community. Notion also allows you to create a template for your specific use. This is how I use Notion from the start. Why do you need to create a custom template in Notion
Custom templates make it easy to replicate content combinations that you often use in Notion. Let’s say you want to fill out the same form every day and ask what you are grateful for, without constantly re-creating it. Or you want to generate the same to-do list at the beginning of every week. You can also build a custom financial tracker based on your usage and reuse it every month. Notion allows you to create a custom template using the template buttonLet’s talk about how to find and use the template button in Notion.
How to Create a custom template in Notion Using Template Button
Here I am going to create two custom templates in Notion. As I said, you can create a template from scratch or use the built-in template, make the necessary changes and save it as a custom template for later use. I imported the weekly calendar template to my Notion page. I have changed the icon, added cover photo and relevant template details and is now ready to use. I’m going to use the template every week, so it’s not practical to import the same template every time and make changes. Instead, I’m going to make it into a template. Follow the steps below to create a custom template in Notion. Step 1: Import a relevant template from the template gallery and make the necessary changes.
Step 2: Create a new page in Notion and give it a relevant title. Step 3: Type ‘/ template’ and Notion will allow you to create a custom template button
Step 4: The software opens the ‘Configuration Template’ button’box.
Step 5: First add a relevant name for the template button Step 6: Now you need to add blocks that you want to duplicate everywhere button is clicked. Step 7: By default, this is set as the task buttonTap the six-dot menu and delete it.
Step 8: From the Notion sidebar, drag the create template onto the template button
Step 9: Click on ‘Close’ button, and now the template button is ready to use.
You can drag and drop this button to any Notion page and with just one click you can create a custom template for you.
I created a different template to track finances every month. By following the steps above you can create a template button for the monthly financial tracker and use it every month.
You can create a template buttons also for normal tasks. I’ve seen Notion users use the to-do template button to quickly create tasks.
How to Edit or delete template Button
Notion offers the flexibility to change the template button name and content. You can make changes to it or even delete the template at any time button Move the pointer over the template button, and you will see the small ‘Settings’ icon at the end of the template buttonTap on it, and it will pop-up box to change the template button name and blocks before it.
You can also tap the six-dot menu and delete the template button whole. But don’t worry, it will just delete the template button and does not make any changes to the existing templates.
Use Notion like a pro
As I mentioned, templates take the Notion experience to the next level. You can use the built-in template and modify it and make it a template button also. I’ve seen users create a brand new Notion template and change it in the template button for frequent use. How will you use the template? button in Notion? Sound off in the comments below.
