At first glance, you’ll notice the round, cylindrical shape of the Ortizan X10 Bluetooth Speaker. Weighing just over 1 pound and measuring about 9 inches tall and 3 inches in diameter, it resembles a “big can” in size and shape. When held in the hand, it feels nice and solid and is made mostly of woven fabric and sturdy plastic. On the side, there are five separate buttons and a single LED. On the top is a radiator-style subwoofer that, along with the LEDs, adds a unique flair. Pairing with your smartphone or other Bluetooth-enabled device is easy. Turn it on, and immediately the LED starts flashing at intervals. Now the speaker is ready for pairing. Select “Ortizan” in your smartphone’s Bluetooth settings and you’re good to go! When we played music through the X10 speaker for the first time, we were actually quite surprised. The internal 24-watt driver seems to deliver a lot of power considering its size. First, we opted for our favorite Spotify playlist. This shuffled through a variety of genres, from bass-heavy hip-hop to old-school jazz music. Surprisingly, the sound quality was nice and clear. High and mid tones were easy to hear, with a nice separation between the two. Low bass tones were present, but not particularly lively or rich. Clarity was right where we wanted it, but the low notes could have shone through a bit better. One of the buttons on the side is the “EQ” button. When you press it, you can switch between three different equalizer settings. These are: Vocal, 3D Deep Bass, and Extra Bass. Each of these settings has its own unique flavor that either lets the vocals shine through or adds an extra bass effect to the sound. We could definitely tell a difference between each setting, but opted for the Extra Bass setting most of the time. It seemed to add a deeper resonance to the low notes, while the Vocal EQ boosted the high and mid notes a bit more. Press and hold the EQ button for three seconds to activate Siri or Google Assistant, depending on which smartphone you’ve paired the device with. Once activated, you can verbally command the speaker to play certain tracks, adjust the volume, etc. This feature is standard these days, so it’s nice to see Ortizan include it. We didn’t use it much, but it’s definitely useful. One cool feature of the Ortizan X10 is the TWS function. It allows you to pair two Ortizan speakers together so that the audio from both of them sounds at the same time. This way, you can place one speaker in one corner of the room and the other on the opposite side. This way you get sound that really comes from all directions. There is only one drawback: you have to buy two speakers.
