Regardless of which device or method you use, once you start watching shows on Netflix, a new list of titles labeled Continue Watching will appear. For some reason, many shows end even when you finish a show completely up just pile up up in this list with no visible way to delete them. Ready to binge-watch House of Cards, right? (via Shutterstock) Fortunately, there is a way to clear your Continue Watching Netflix list. The secret lies in your viewing history. This can only be done on a computer while logged into the Netflix website.
Manage viewing history to clear the ‘Continue watching’ list
If you want to clear your continue watching Netflix list, you must remove the titles in that list from your watch history. Fortunately, Netflix makes this easy with the ability to delete entire series instead of just individual episodes, but that’s possible too. First, go to the Netflix website. If you are logged in, pay attention to the titles in your Continue watching list and especially which ones you want to delete. For this example, I’m removing Grace and Frankie from the list.
First, go to the right corner of your Netflix page and hover over your name. Click Your Account in the menu. On the account page, scroll to the My profile section and click View activity.
The Watch Activity page lists every TV show or movie you’ve streamed on Netflix in reverse chronological order. Tip On this page, you can also see which streaming devices recently accessed your Netflix account and their dates and times. Click View recent account access at the top for a separate list of these devices. Now find the show or shows in your viewing activity that you want to remove from the Continue watching list. If you’re trying to delete a series, choose one of the episodes for now. Click the X to the right of the show to get rid of it. Netflix lets you know that the show’s history should be removed from the app on all devices within 24 hours, but more often than not, it’s almost instantaneous.
If you deleted a Netflix title that is not in a series like a movie, you can stop there. Otherwise, Netflix will ask you in the delete message if you want to delete the entire series from your history. Click Delete series? to completely remove all episodes and thus remove them from the Continue watching list. Go back to the Netflix home page. The titles you wanted to remove from the Continue Watching list should be gone, or if you removed them all, the list itself should no longer be there. If not, give it up up to 24 hours, as Netflix suggests to sync all your devices up
For this example, you can see in the image that Grace and Frankie are no longer present in Continue Watching. Keep in mind that you can always search for the shows you delete on Netflix to have them reappear. Important: If you don’t want to have the hassle of deleting your Netflix viewing history to clear the Continue watching list, you can always up a new profile and start over. Be careful not to lose all the flavors and recommendations you may have made by doing this up overtime. To do this, hover over your name again and click Manage Profiles in the menu. Then click Add Profile to enter and save a name. You can also add profiles from other devices.
