This review focuses on the Fire HD 10, 2021 edition’s core feature set and capabilities. Separate reviews are available for the Fire HD 10 Kids and Kids Pro, the Fire HD 10 Plus, and the Fire HD 10 Productivity Bundle and Plus Productivity Bundle, which all add features and accessories to the base model. The size and weight are the most noticeable differences between this 2021 Fire Tab 10 and the 2019 model. It has lost approximately 40g from its previous half-kilo weight. That may not seem like much, but it significantly reduces wrist strain when using one hand. It’s also 15mm shorter and 8mm thinner on its longest edge. Not only does this make it more manageable, but the 16:10 screen now fits more evenly into the frame, with a uniform 15mm bezel running all the way around, which, if nothing else, wins points for neatness. The colour options for the rim and plastic rear remain unchanged: Denim, Lavender, Olive, or Black. Everything else is on the same short side of the frame, except for the 3.5mm audio-out, USB-C charge port, and power switch, which have all been relocated. The volume controls remain unchanged, and there is now a dual mic system to pick up the Alexa wake word rather than just one. It used to work well, and it works even better now. On the inside, there haven’t been many significant changes. The show is still powered by a 2.0GHz octa-core processor, the internal storage is still 32GB or 64GB, and the screen is still a 10.1-inch, 1920 x 1200 HD display with a pixel density of 224ppi. The screen is made of reinforced aluminium silicate glass. RAM has been increased from 2GB to 3GB, making the experience snappy even in picture-in-picture mode. You can watch Netflix in a separate window while comfortably browsing the web. The rear-facing camera has also been upgraded, with a 5MP image sensor replacing the previous 2MP sensor. However, video recording remains at 720p, and battery life remains at up to 12 hours. With the included 9W adapter, you can get a full charge in four hours. If you can find a more powerful one, that number will drop to around three.
