The G923 expands on that with some appropriate refinements. The TRUEFORCE force feedback system, which works directly through a racer’s in-game engine, makes driving even more realistic. This is accomplished through the use of a new internal closed-loop motor control setup. The firmware of the G923 monitors all current flowing through the wheel motors in order to match outputs from game physics. The LED rev indicator and 24-Point selection dial from the G920’s Playstation 4 version are now standard on both consoles. Though the focus remains on the wheel, additional functionality for pedals and stick shift would have been appreciated. The G923, which is compatible with both the Playstation 5 and the Xbox Series X, is as enjoyable now as it will be when the next-generation consoles arrive. Only four racing games are fully compatible with the G923 at launch, including Grid, Assetto Corsa Competizione, Gran Turismo Sport, and iRacing. Fans of simulation-style racers should rejoice, as the addition of TRUEFORCE does improve vehicle control, potentially leading to faster lap times. Even games that do not support TRUEFORCE benefit from improved force feedback via closed-loop motor controls built into the game’s firmware. The rev indicator and selection dial for adjusting torque, stability controls, brake force, and other settings on the fly were already available to PS4 owners who owned the mainstream sim leaning GT Sport. TRUEFORCE improves on the blockbuster game developed by Polyphony Digital. Hardcore racing simulators like Assetto and iRacing perform admirably as well, owing to their highly customizable control schemes. Users will almost certainly use the entire 900 degree turning radius of the wheel, depending on their skill level. However, Grid is the best example of the G923. It’s easy for beginners and the hardcore elite to dive in, as it bridges the gap between sim and arcade-like handling. It’s a shame that newer arcade-style racing games like Need For Speed: Heat and middle-of-the-road open world racers like Forza Horizon 4 don’t get the TRUEFORCE treatment. It would have been great to have some support for non-racing games like Truck Simulator. Given that the wheel forward feature is compatible with next-generation consoles, more games may use it in the future. On the G923, breaking, cornering, and various surfaces all feel better than ever. The pedals get the least attention. A progressive spring and a stiffer brake pedal allow for better heel-toe maneuvers. Hopefully, Logitech will be able to make their pedals match the realism of their wheels without charging an exorbitant price. Regardless, the entire construction feels extremely strong. The steering wheel and pedals are both comfortable and ready for hours of driving.
